You are looking at a hand painted shaped like a chicken or hen soup tureen with lid and ladle made by Los Angeles Potteries/N.S. Gustin Co in their Stipple Blue Spongeware chicken pattern. On the front edge of the lid is hand painted "31-H" and the bottom of the tureen has the same marks. Not all the pottery has the mark of maker on bottom. Los Angeles Potteries was started in 1940. When it turned to art ware and figurines in the 1950's, they were sold through N.S. Gustin of Los Angeles. N.S. Gustin Company was incorporated in 1958. In December 1970, when Los Angeles Potteries closed, they sold all their molds to N.S. Gustin, which used them at Designcraft. This tureen is in excellent condition, no chips, no cracks, no crazing.  Ladle is also in excellent Condition. Size: Approx: Soup Tureen with lid: 12 inches tall, 13 1/2 inches long, 8 1/2 inches at widest point. Ladle: 10 1/2 inches long.
